As baseball season approaches and the basketball season is slowly coming to an end, there is one event that still makes people happy. On Thursday April 22, at Radio City Music Hall in New York City, the 75th NFL Draft begins.

This year’s draft is being claimed as one of the deepest drafts in the league’s history. The draft is so deep because there are so many players that can fill your teams’ needs and or positions. Top players in this year’s draft include Ndamukong Suh, a defensive tackle from Nebraska, and Tim Tebow from Florida.

This year’s draft will be so interesting to watch because there is a huge debate on who will be the top pick. Right now Draft Gurus believe it will either be Ndamukong Suh or Gerald McCoy, a defensive tackle from Oklahoma. People who follow college football know that Suh and McCoy both have had excellent careers. Personally, I believe Suh is going to be the top pick this year because he is very fast for his size, (300 lbs.) and he plays his position extremely well. The St. Louis Rams have this year’s top pick so they are likely to draft either McCoy or Suh.

I would like to address our local NFL teams. First, we have the Jets. As you know, last year the Jets drafted Mark Sanchez with the 5th pick in the first round. It obviously seemed to be a good fit because he led them all the way to the AFC title game. This year the Jets first pick is 29th. Many people, including draft experts at espn.com believe that the Jets are going to draft an offensive tackle such as Charles Brown from USC. This player would be a good fit for the Jets because they need someone to protect Mark Sanchez, something they failed to do last year. Look for the Jets to draft some decent prospects in the later rounds.

Next, we have the Giants. Last year the Giants selected Hakeem Nicks with the 29th pick in the first round. Nicks was a good addition to the Giants but he certainly didn’t help them get to the playoffs. As we all know, the Giants defense came apart late in the season and they failed to make the playoffs. This year the Giants’ first round pick is at 15. The Giants are expected to draft Dan Williams, a defensive tackle from Tennessee. This player would be a good fit for the Giants because the Giants need help on defense which caused them to lose so many close games last year. Look for the Giants to draft as many defensive players as they can to help their team.

Finally, we have the Patriots. Last year, the Patriots traded away their first round draft pick to the Ravens. However, they did make the playoffs, but lost to the Ravens in the wild-card round. This year, the Patriots should use their first round draft choice. The Patriots are expected to draft Brandon Graham, a defensive end from Michigan. This player would be a good fit for the Patriots because the Patriots are looking to get younger on their defense, which is slowly falling apart. Look for the Patriots to draft defensive and offensive players in this year’s draft. To conclude, this years draft will be interesting and memorable so tune in on April 22.
