Dear Amity Community,
I would like to take this opportunity to express how grateful I am to everyone involved in this year’s pursuit and achievement of our second Division II Ice Hockey State Championship for Amity Regional High School. Reaching this goal twice in three years is more than I could ever have hoped for.
I am extremely proud of the players on this team, who truly understand what the word ‘TEAM’ represents. This group of young men possessed the confidence, commitment and desire to win – a coach’s dream.
Along with this outstanding group of players I would be amiss not to mention the support I received from the Amity administration, my assistant coaches and the Amity Hockey parent group. Without their involvement our program would not be of the caliber it is today. In fact because of their participation, we have brought this program back to a Division I hockey program, a goal I had set when I first became coach of Amity Hockey.
As for the Amity student body, your support throughout the hockey season was extraordinary. One writer in a local paper referred to our fans as the 7th player on the ice. Many times, especially in the third period, your presence gave us the confidence we needed to prevail.
I am also thankful for the outstanding coverage we received all year from the local papers. It was an honor to hold such high rankings from area papers throughout the season.
I am so proud to be affiliated with this community as a coach and a counselor of this school. Our success would not have felt so wonderful if you were not there as an integral part of it. Please know I will forever be thankful for your role in this state championship. I hope you will continue to support all the teams of Amity; you have proven what "community support" is all about. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
Sincerely,
Gary Lindgren, Amity Hockey Coach
